About Me

My Musical Background

I began violin lessons as a 7 year old - instantly becoming infatuated with the instrument. I started playing about on the piano in the house. Later I also had some lessons on the piano as a child and an adult. This has given me an insight into learning an instrument as a child and how this differs to learning as an adult.

I have decades of experience playing in county orchestras, currently playing with the wonderful Sussex Symphony Orchestra. I gained Grade 8 piano 2010 and Violin Grade 8 (with Merit) 2012. I continue to explore musical opportunities - in Summer 2018 I played violin in an outdoor production of A Midsummer Nights Dream at Stanmer Park, Brighton. I've been teaching music for around 5 years.

Brighton is a wonderful place for music lovers. I am based in Hollingdean (near Fiveways, Ditchling Road and Lewes Road near Sainsbury's) and have a lovely acoustic Cramer upright piano. I can help source suitable violins if needed with advice about sizes.

Music Lessons

Focusing on musicianship via the violin or piano, I aim to provide guidance in performance, theoretical knowledge, confidence and most of all enjoyment in creating music.

Do you recognise my face?

If you do, it may be because my other jobs are as a part time NHS GP and an osteopath. As such I have had numerous CRB/DBS checks. My music has been an amazing source of pleasure throughout my medical training. I continued to play in the medical school orchestra and even joined the Cairns Orchestra and Victoria Youth Orchestra while working in Australia as a junior doctor.
